31 Fright Nights: Halloween 2016

“The season’s upon us, it’s that time of year – candy and eggnog there’s plenty of cheer!” as the song by the Dropkick Murphy’s goes. But before the most wonderful time of the year, it’s soon Halloween – a commercial season I have no interest in other than to indulge my passion for all thing’s horror (and chocolate).

With that in mind, I’m embarking on my most ambitious blog project yet – 31 Fright Nights, a film per day from the 1st to 31st October 2016, covering a range of horror films: from classics to new releases, slasher films to psychological horror, New French Extremity to classic American horror. Each post will cover basic facts including Writer, Director, Cast, Budget, Box Office, General Consensus and some Trivia, along with a small personal waxing by myself on why I recommend this particular film.

There are no doubt films that will raise some thumbs and others some eyebrows, and no doubt an intellectual debate on ‘SJC: Screen Junkie Corps‘ but this is my personal selection. You might think that there are several omissions, classics that are the staple of the October diet but I wanted to do something a little different this year; I have no problem watching Child’s Play, Jaws, Poltergeist, Phantasm, The Omen and many other genre classics, but this year I wanted to shake it up a little bit and dust off some of the more recent films that deserve some attention. So join me, rebel against me and do your own, or spend 31 days watching franchises: just engage, for 31 days, one of the best film genre’s there is.
